Lübker Golf named Best Course in Denmark – again

The resort honoured at the annual World Golf Awards in Abu Dhabi

A proud representative of Lübker Golf Resort took to the stage on Tuesday at the exclusive Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island resort in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to receive the award for Best Golf Course in Denmark 2022.

Every year, based on user recommendations, the World Golf Awards organisation honours the best golf courses, best hotels and best golf travel agencies throughout the world. The ceremony in Abu Dhabi was the ninth of its kind.

Lübker’s golf manager, Hans Knudsen travelled to the United Arab Emirates to receive the award, which is the result of a wide range of votes from customers, suppliers and partners. Hans Knudsen is particularly proud, because it is the users who voted for the Lübker Golf Course as the best in Denmark.

“I’m also so impressed by the way in which our head greenkeeper tends to, and looks after the course. Players hardly ever see the greenkeepers. On a commercial level, the fact that we now have it in black and white that we are the best course in Denmark will certainly help us marketing-wise too,” says Hans Knudsen.

Head greenkeeper’s anniversary

The course superintendent (head greenkeeper), Spencer Opstrup Lloyd-Pye and his staff of 12 (some of them part-time) has been responsible for the technical level of the Lübker course for 10 years.

“This amazing recognition is a huge honour for me and my loyal team. We’ve worked relentlessly to make the course worthy of our members and green fee players. It’s no secret that Lübker Golf has been through a tough time. But, thanks to the resort owner’s willingness to invest and a steady, upward curve, the results are now crystal clear. In February, I will be celebrating 10 years at Lübker, so I regard this as a reward for the entire team, and that makes me both happy and proud,” says Spencer Opstrup Lloyd-Pye.

Resort owner also delighted about the honour

“There is no doubt that we at the resort and the club are delighted to witness this appreciation of our last three or four years’ work, which was devoted to improving both the facilities and the course, making it one of the very best in Denmark. This is very much down to our head greenkeeper, Spencer Opstrup Lloyd-Pye,” says Carl Aage Nielsen.

“The goal is to create continuous improvements every year, making the course and the resort attractive to both members and green fee players – particularly guests from nearby foreign countries, for whom the resort was actually built. We can use the honour in our marketing to create gentle growth. That is why we are so happy about this pat on the back, and hope it won’t be a one-off affair,” says Carl Aage Nielsen.

Expansion Round the Corner

Lübker Golf Resort in Djursland was opened in 2008. Throughout its years of existence, it has been one of the best golf courses in Denmark. In addition to the unique golf resort, the resort has more than 150 holiday homes, a spa & wellness centre, subtropical baths, play areas, a gym, a café and a restaurant, and meeting and conference facilities.

In the coming years, Lübker expects to expand the resort with both hotel rooms and several hundred new holiday homes – not to mention a number of outdoor and indoor facilities aimed at increasing the range of all-year-round activities. There is also the opportunity to acquire an undeveloped plot of land or a house in a great location.

AND THE WINNER IS…

This prestigious award is presented annually by the World Golf Awards, celebrating the finest golf courses worldwide based on votes from customers, suppliers, and partners. This year, seven Danish courses were nominated, and during the grand ceremony held in Madeira on November 22, Lübker received this outstanding honor.

A special thanks and congratulations go to Head Greenkeeper Spencer and his talented team, as well as Golf Manager Hans Knudsen, for their exceptional efforts. This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of the entire team – and without resort owner Carl Aage Nielsen’s willingness to invest and continuously develop Lübker.
