Lübker Golf voted Best Course in Denmark – again

Danish DP World Tour course honoured for the second time in three years at the World Golf Awards

It’s hard to get to the top, but is often harder to stay there. Apparently, this is not the case for Lübker Golf, which has permanently cemented its reputation as one of Denmark’s finest golf courses. Recognised and praised for the high standard most recently in August this year by the players in the Danish Golf Championship on the DP World Tour.

For this reason, it was proud Lübker Golf representatives who took to the stage at the annual World Golf Awards at the Savoy Palace Hotel in Funchal, Madeira on Friday, 22 November to receive the honour as “Denmarks Best Golf Course 2024”. It was the second time in just three years after Lübker Golf also received the honour in 2022 in Abu Dhabi, Emirates.

The World Golf Awards organisation honours the best golf courses, best hotels and best golf travel agencies each year based on user nominations, and the gala ceremony in Madeira was the 11th of its kind. In attendance to receive the honour were both the owner of the Lübker resort, Carl Aage Nielsen, and golf manager Hans Knudsen, who were delighted with the recognition and the result of the hard work and great commitment put into developing and maintaining the course on Djursland.

“It is an incredible honour for us to be voted Denmark’s best course again for the second time in just three years. This award shows that our work to improve and develop the track has paid off. This is a huge accomplishment for our entire team”, says Hans Knudsen.

Designation as a DP World Tour course

As the course to host the Danish Golf Championship on the DP World Tour, Lübker Golf in 2024 was both recognised and promoted internationally with TV transmission worldwide, after Made in Denmark and Made in Himmerland were held in Himmerland and Silkeborg for the first ten years. It was an event that added prestige to both the Lübker course and the rest of the resort as an attractive destination for both national and international elite and golf tourists in general. In this year’s “Golf World Top 100”, the Lübker course was ranked number 8 in “Best Value Courses Continental Europe” and the Lübker resort was ranked number 64 in Continental Europe.

“When we agreed to host the Danish Golf Championship in 2024, our aim was for Lübker to host again in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, we will work hard to maintain our position at the top of Danish and European golf and, where possible, expand the resort to make it – at least – as successful next time. The award means a lot to us because it shows that our investments and the team’s efforts are appreciated. We are proud that Lübker is recognised as one of Denmark’s leading golf destinations, and we look forward to further developing the resort as a place where both Danish and international players can have an unforgettable experience”, says resort owner Carl Aage Nielsen.

Tribute to the head greenkeeper

The many praises and great recognition of the Lübker course from both national and international level can be addressed to a very dedicated greenkeeping team led by head greenkeeper Spencer Opstrup Lloyd-Pye, who for almost 12 years laboured tirelessly to create a world-class golf course. The head greenkeeper sees the great recognition as a sign of success.

“It is a great honour for all of us to receive the award, which I see as a tribute to my entire team who have worked tirelessly with the course not only before, but also during and after the Danish Golf Championship. This latest recognition will give us renewed strength to continue working to maintain the course at a level we can all be proud of”, says Spencer Opstrup Lloyd-Pye.

AND THE WINNER IS…

Lübker has been voted “Denmark’s Best Golf Course 2024”. This prestigious award is presented annually by the World Golf Awards, celebrating the finest golf courses worldwide based on votes from customers, suppliers, and partners. Seven Danish courses were nominated, and during the grand ceremony held in Madeira on November 22, Lübker received this outstanding honor.

A special thanks and congratulations go to Head Greenkeeper Spencer and his talented team, as well as Golf Manager Hans Knudsen, for their exceptional efforts. This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of the entire team – and without resort owner Carl Aage Nielsen’s willingness to invest and continuously develop Lübker.
